Carcharodon Training Simulator
A downloadable game for Windows
Bright/flashing lights warning - aside from various flashy VFX and too much bloom, I have noticed occasional graphical glitches that flash/strobe. I haven't been able to figure out how to recreate them and they're infrequent, but I think it's worth including a warning for.

Setup:
In the indeterminately-far future, you are a Carcharodon, a warrior commanding a colossal robot equipped with weapons of unparalleled might. These weapons, once deemed excessive or inhumane in gentler ages past, now serve as your tools of survival.
To master the intricacies of your mechanical steed, you immerse yourself in an abstract combat simulation. Be mindful of your engine overheating, and strategically use your shield to ensure survival.
Try to score as highly as possible, and show what you're made of!

Entry to MechJam IV. Original upload was just the .exe, I forgor to include the .pck file. Oops. The original .exe is included to confirm it was uploaded before the submission date.
Developed solo, and most graphics are combinations of basic polygons and shaders, with the exception of:
- Most/all (can't remember for the submission version) sprites used in particle VFX are from Kenney's Particle Pack (https://www.kenney.nl/assets/particle-pack)
- The font is Kenney Future Square, from the Kenney Font Pack (https://www.kenney.nl/assets/kenney-fonts)
- The pattern used on the player's main body is from the Kenney Pattern Pack (https://www.kenney.nl/assets/pattern-pack)
No audio as of jam submission as I manage my time poorly and submitted way too late, and I haven't done audio stuff before - hoping to include some in a later build.
Controls and mechanics explanations are available on the main menu, but I forgot to mention in there that you can quit out of the game with escape.
Also, a bug I've noticed since submission results in escalating lag if the run goes on long enough because of the uncapped enemy spawns - I did write some logic to avoid that, and of course commented it out without re enabling it before exporting the .exe 🤡. Maybe just consider unbearable lag to herald the end of a run, if you haven't died by then?
Please don't roast the janky enemy pathfinding.
PS. I scored ~94000 in a run before the jam submission, let me know if you get higher! I actually have no idea what the difficulty of this game is going to be like for other people, and haven't tested with anyone else yet.
